This Grazing Table was put together for approximately 60 women attending the kick off event at Truth Baptist Church. I was honored to serve the ladies there. There morning was filled with worship and teaching from God's Word, and then they broke for a lunch that they didn't have to help with. So many ladies came to thank me for all the wonderful food and for making the day extra special.
Crystal had been to one of the showers I had done in the last year and she was touched and wanted the same idea for the women at her church. To bless the women with a special time to kick off their year of ministry with not having to bring a potluck style lunch. They wanted something a little extra special. Not that potlucks are bad, just that there's work involved and once in a while it's ok to bless ladies with not having to work.
Specialty drinks, and desserts were also part of the lunch. The tables were adorned with fresh flowers and each place setting carefully laid out for every woman to feel blessed by small touches to remind them they are loved by God.
Wickham Park - I've been there but never for a wedding and this view was a spectacular backdrop for this gorgeous day in September. I met Kaley at Hobby Lobby, we worked together for a couple years while I was the Floral Dept. Head, she was the Head of the Fabric Department. Right next to my department. We worked great together and I may have helped her not strangle a few people a couple different times over the years! LOL! It was so special to help Kaley with this day and bring her ideas to fruition.
I got to work outside again with another gorgeous weekend. Part of the attraction to doing all this is to see all the amazing flowers God has created and enjoy them while they are in my care.
A few photos from Kaley and shopping on Petal Jet becomes a very fun activity. I get to be creative with how it will all work out in the end. How many stems per container, per bouquet, are just a couple things to consider.
Here comes the Bride!
Sweetheart Table!
Table Centerpieces, Bouquets for the Bride and the Bridal Party, Boutonnieres, Sweetheart Table, and various decorations throughout the venue to work on and it all came together beautifully. Luke, my husband was my helper this time and he did a fabulous job helping me get all this done in 2 hours. Then we changed and were able to attend the wedding! It was quite a warm day, with a few sprinkles, but that quickly ended and the rest of the night was so much fun for this family! I just love weddings!
Dear Kaley and Mac, thank you for allowing me to help you on this very special day. May God bless you and may He continue to show you how very much He loves you both! Everything was just beautiful!
After setting up for the rehearsal dinner the day before, I went home and began prepping flowers for the wedding. There would be 13 centerpieces, the head table piece, the arch for the altar, welcome signs and side tables to adorn. My sister-in-law Kate came with me and have I mentioned I love working with her! Kate has attention to detail and is very artistic so I know whatever task I give her, she executes so well that I don't have to worry one ounce about how it will turn out.
This cross is from Livie and Will Ashley's wedding last December. Side note, Ian carried this cross during the Good Friday Walk several years back with the Nazarene's Youth Group.
We couldn't use the base of the cross because of the height of the arbor, but we secured it well and it came out lovely. The flowers on the arch were re-used from a prior wedding where they were on the pews.
It was a gorgeous day to have a wedding! Kate and I arrived and quickly went to work on all the touches Ashley asked for. White and Black were the theme and the venue was gorgeous and the people were wonderful to work with. La Bella Vista in Waterbury is where this wedding was held and it surely didn't disappoint.
Dear Ashley and Ian, thank you for trusting me with your flowers for this day that begins your life together in marriage. May God bless you both with a long, healthy and happy life together. I thoroughly enjoyed creating your vision come to life. Both for the rehearsal and the wedding.
What an honor it was to be asked back for another event by Erin to help with another wedding. A rehearsal dinner today, the wedding tomorrow. I know I've said it before but it bares repeating, It really is unique to be able to be a part of someone's special day such as a wedding. I don't know if typical florists feel the same way since that is their job, but for someone to trust me with the part of the wedding that can set the mood and bring to life the vision of the bride, that is unique!
This weekend was so beautiful, and my new backyard was so pretty, that I was able to work outside doing all the centerpieces. Totally cool, just needed to keep my chickens from pecking the flowers! Erin asked for bright and summery centerpieces to be set up at Vyne restaurant in Middlebury, CT.
Setting up for this type of event is fairly simple. The centerpieces are already made so it's all about executing the plan and making it ready for the arrival of the family. Erin's friend came and helped me so it went smoothly!
A very special wedding indeed with a story that shows how God works in our lives and blesses us through each other. This special family went to church with our family for many years. Our kids grew up going to church together. When our kids were teens, my husband and I were youth group leaders and had many fun times taking these kids to camp up at Word of Life, or the all night rallies called Reverb (or Superbowl, depending on how far back you go.) Then there was also CEF of CT. (Child Evangelism Fellowship) that our kids did together too.
Christina went on to Word of Life for 2 years after high school and then went to do an intern at a church in Florida leading youth group and getting involved in CEF of Florida. She would then go on to become an employee of CEF in Florida and we couldn't be more proud of her service work to the Lord. In 2023, she decided to stay in Florida after her internship for 2 reasons....she met her future husband down there and for some odd reason, she LOVES the Florida heat. Then in 2023, her whole family moved down there too! John and Michelle are great friends of ours and have been in small groups together over the years, not to mention all the cars John has fixed for us and helped innumerable times with various things. He's that kind of friend that would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. Those are the best kind of friends!
When I received the wedding invitation earlier this year, Luke and I went back and forth about attending because of all the other traveling we have or will be doing this year. How would we fit it all in and not break the bank? A comment from Michelle on one of my posts about flowers on Facebook caused me to reach out and ask Christina how her planning was coming along in regards to flowers, because if she needed help, I might possibly be able to help. She replied with "you are an answer to prayer, that is the one thing I have left to plan and the florists down here are either already booked or REALLY expensive" That sealed our fate! I would help! And they would help too! They put Luke and I up in Christina's home for the first few days as I would need a place to process the flowers when they arrived.
Then they put us up in the Venue (which was an AIRBNB) for the rest of our time down there so we could help with the decorating and set-up. Of course John also helped with letting us use one of his vehicles while we were there too. The Lord blessed us and them through each other's giftings and talents. We had a great time helping where we could.
The centerpieces awaiting their placement at the venue. I had a sweet room to prep everything in! This place was amazing! It made me want to make a better working space for myself at home for the weddings I prep at home.
What do you do when you realize the day before there are no flower girl baskets? Well, you delegate! The morning of the wedding, Luke took me to Hobby Lobby where I quickly made work of their sales and came home to create these 3 sweet baskets for the 3 flower girls!
This was supposed to be the ceremony site, but with a high chance of rain, it was moved to under the tent.
I don't always get to attend the weddings I help with, but when I do, I get to take my own photos!
Always adaptable, these were to be lining the aisle, but with the change of location for the ceremony, there was no longer room for them, so at the front they went.
The beautiful friends of Christina's, and they are wonderful friends to be sure! It was fun getting to know them and live life for a few days with them!
Not too shabby I must say! My high school sweetheart and I having an awesome time at this beautiful place in Florida. Don't let the pic fool you though, we were both hot as heck! LOL!
Dear Christina and Jonathan, may your life be blessed with all the things that make you smile! May God shine His light down upon you as you both serve the Lord in your special and unique ways. Jonathan, may your business thrive and provide all you need to raise your family!
Dear John and Michelle, thank you for all your trust in me for this very special day and for your help in making it most affordable for us to be there. It was an honor to watch your sweet daughter get married! We miss you but know we are happy for you to be doing so well in Florida!
Word of mouth is the best way to grow! That is how I met Sarah. Sarah is friends with Faith, whose wedding I helped with last October. Sarah was looking for help with the bouquets, boutonnieres, corsages, church decor and head table flowers.
Sarah and Joseph were so sweet to work with. Their photos of what they wanted were beautiful and new for me to work with. This welcome sign at the church was fun to flowerize! Is that a word? Probably not, but I like it. Her flower colors were yellow, green and white. Wait till you see the flowers! So pretty!
We all know this as Babies Breath, but it's real name is Gypsophila!
Here is the front of the church, real flowers to dress up the front and boy this was beautiful in person. Smilax hangs down while Eucalyptus and Roses adorned the rest. This was my first time using smilax and it was very interesting to work with. They come as very long pieces and you cut it down to the size you want.
How gorgeous are these bouquets?! Some of my favorite flowers to work with are Roses, Lisianthus (which are dainty and have pretty movement in a bouquet.) This was my first time using yarrow (achillea) which was a great flower for bouquets.
Originally planned to take the aisle centerpiece and bring it to the venue for the sweetheart table, but when Sarah saw it she thought it might be too big for the sweetheart table, so I was able to go home and make this one for the sweetheart table by altering the amount of flowers in each bouquet. I think it worked out well!
Lastly, I made this bouquet for the card table at the venue. Sarah used the card box from Faith's wedding and some of my candles from a prior wedding as well. When people donate their items to me after their wedding, it opens up opportunities for others to save on decor when they can re-use them. I have many vases and centerpiece items that others can use.
Dear Sarah and Joseph, May the God of all creation bless your marriage and lives together. Thank you for being such sweethearts to work with and I hope you felt blessed on your big day!
Dear Gail, thank you for trusting me with the flowers on this big day! Your encouragement of me and what I'm doing is priceless! May your family continue to grow and may the Lord bless and keep you and yours!
Rachel and Sam met at Word of Life Bible Institute. A place special in my heart since our kids both attended there and Luke jr. met his bride there too. We love Word of Life! So this is a special union between these 2 that I am blessed to be a part of!
When you plan an outdoor wedding, you must have an alternate plan in case of potential rain or even heat! The day was originally planned to be outdoors and the reception under the new pavilion built at the Nazarene Church. Planning sessions took place ahead of time with how I would decorate and make it a bit more wedding looking than a typical picnic. We were all ready to make that happen when the day before a call had to be made with potential rain coming and a heat wave to boot. So indoors it was. Friday was a full day of decorating and arranging the fellowship hall to accommodate 150 people. By 3:00 we were done making the hall beautiful and the sanctuary complete as well.
I learned on this wedding that you can use pretty big safety pins to adhere the aisle flowers to fabric chairs, which is good because I have another wedding I'll have to do the same thing.
These flower towers are from Livie's wedding back in December. I added some blue and orange to make it more of Rachel's colors. It's always nice to save money to re-use past decor.
The fellowship hall came out beautiful!
The head table is always a special place to decorate!
After decorating Friday, I came home to make the bouquets and prep the centerpieces which we would add on Saturday!
And the last piece to this wedding came somewhat late to the game. When the caterer for the appetizers didn't work out, I asked Stephanie what she thought of a table of cheese and crackers, hummus plates, chips and salso and fruit. She was on board so that was assembled as well on Saturday. Grateful, my sister-in-law, Kate joined me on Saturday to get all the finishing touches done.
Dear Rachel and Sam, I hope your day will always be memorable and bring a smile to your face every time you think about all your friends and family being there to help you celebrate!
Dear Stephanie, thank you for trusting me with this important day in the life of your family. I so enjoyed working together to make this day special! Blessings you you and your fmaily!
When you get a call from a loved one asking for help, and you know you can, the joy just comes.
Fruits, cheeses, and meats! What's not to love?
Gluten free BLT's and Chicken Salad on lettuce buns!
Desserts galore! Which 1 to choose...or 2 or 3?
Typically when I do a grazing table, I ask the planner to take care of the drinks. This takes a huge load of my plate and is a smaller task typically easy to handle. Here, Livie did an amazing job with the drinks.
It makes me happy to know I have things in my stock of supplies that others can use and we don't all have to buy everything. Here are 2 of my drink containers available for tables I do.
This was 3 tables of food and 1 1/2 tables of drinks. I think it all came together nicely and it was an honor to work with some amazing ladies!
And how cute is this backdrop Livie did? With a few things from home to decorate, you don't need to spend a lot of money!
Rachel, I hope you felt showered with love by your beautiful family and friends. It was an honor to be a part of your day and I look forward to working on your wedding as well! Livie and your family did an awesome job caring for every detail to make you feel special and loved as a beuatiful daughter of the King!
There are people in life we meet who really gives us the ability to believe there are good people out there in the world and Ken is one of them! Ken hosted our daughter and son in laws wedding a couple years ago at his home. He graciously completed his deck for the ceremony and the reception was in his back yard. It was a most beautiful day. Since then, we have come to know Ken a little more as all the holidays are held at his home for family and friends and we have an open invitation to the holidays.
However, he has a desire to move closer to more of his family out west and has decided to put his house on the market. He asked me if I would be willing to work with him to update the decor in his home for the photographer from the realtor and showing the home. Yes! This is another example of helping a freind out! Also, I should add he is also helping us out with designing and helping us replace our existing deck. It's a beautiful trade! Using our gifts to help each other in the things we need. So the following photos are the arrangements I either made or purchased as is to add a colorful touch, modernizing his gorgeous home. Can't wait to show pics of our deck later this spring/summer.
Magnolias bring a touch of class to any room!
Just beautiful!
I am grateful for the opportunity to help in this way. Hopefully it's added warm and inviting touches for perspective buyers. His home is already beautiful, so it was an easy task. Thank you Ken, and blessings through the sale process and I pray the Lord looks favorably on you and your endeavors!
I had never met Francie, only heard about her through my sister in law, Kate. But when I did, I knew this was going to be a fun shower to help with! Kate and Francie work together and are good friends. I met with Francie and Lauren, another daughter and was very excited to work with them! Each party has its own unique plan. This one the menu was mostly planned out by Francie and Lauren, with the idea of Chicken and Waffles, with Mac and Cheese and a toppings bar. Caesar Salad, Waldorf Salad, a yogurt bar and Tiramisu for dessert and the rest of the accoutrements could be whatever I'd like. Someone once told me a party is "A Party" if there is Shrimp Cocktail, so now that's my addition if it's not asked for.
I love when I have items from prior events that can help dress up future events. The lace runners here are from another shower that now was a great addition to this shower. Toppings for waffles that Kate was making to order! And Toppings for Mac and Cheese that made me want to stay!
Today's partner in crime! My sister-in-law Kate! Amazingly, I've known Kate since she was 12 back when Luke and I started dating! We've been great sisters ever since. Kate's attention to detail is how I know I can count on her! She's a nurse and that caring quality shines through all she does!
Dear Rachel, it is my prayer you felt loved and cared for by your family and friends on this day, may your wedding be glorious and your marriage be everlasting and full of joy! Dear Francie, thank you for trusting me with your daughter's shower, for your ease in working together and for your beautiful heart to want the best for your daughter! I hope I exceeded your expectations!
You just never know the needs of others. Jessica has a condition that can be pretty debilitating at times, so when she asked if I could help with the food at her daughter's shower, my thought was yes!...this is one of the reasons to do what I do!
This shower was for 75 people, so it was the largest grazing table I've done so far. People often ask me how long it takes to do these events and I honestly didn't know. So I paid attention this time.
Shopping at 3 different stores took me 5 hours. Prep day which is washing everything and peeling/cutting everything took 12 hours. Of course my husband was there helping me with cleaning up after me. ;)
On the day of the event, there are last minute prep things to do and then set up which is where all the fun comes in, making things come together to look beautiful. That took 4 hours.
Having a helper makes things go smoother and Alyssa was my helper this time! I remembered to take a photo! It was this event that showed me why a helper is absolutely necessary. I swear I checked my fridge to make sure I had everything I needed, you know the last minute sweep like when you stay in a hotel and you do one last check to make sure you have everything! Well, my eyes missed something.
It came time for Alyssa to put together the Shrimp Cocktail. Where is the cocktail sauce? My fridge! 🥹 A quick search found Aldi 3 minutes away! Dear sweet Alyssa grabbed my keys and off she went, came back in perfect timing to fill all 50 cups and we finished before the guests began to arrive. I have never claimed to be perfect, in fact I am far from it and I feel no need to hide that fact. But I am committed and determined to carry out what I promised to do. Thank you Alyssa for so much, for working with me to serve a few people we don't know, for having a joyful heart the entire time, for rescuing me with a trip to Aldi and for donating your time and your dollars for that cocktail sauce. 😂 I believe God was glorified through our efforts.
Dear Jessica, thank you for trusting me with your beautiful daughters shower. Thank you for loving on your daughter and family to set them up for success as they begin a new journey together.
Dear Genesis, I hope and pray you felt loved and blessed through our efforts and the efforts of your beautiful family and ultimately know how much God loves you and that little one he has knit in your womb. Psalm 139:13-16 tells us we are fearfully and wonderfully made and speaks of being created by God. Your little one, may he grow to be a strong, loving man who knows his creator well.
What a blessing to be able to shower Anna with love for her expected bundle of joy! Woodland Animal Theme!
Did you know you could take pine cones from your yard, put them in a 200 degree oven for 2 hours......
.....and they will open up perfectly? Just make sure they are on parchment paper for the sap.
The makings of a great centerpiece for a woodland theme shower.
Adorable!
Its great to have things people need for such an event. This was an Ice Cream Bar grazing table. With a whole lot of other desserts brought in by family and friends. I just put the table together with some of my supplies from home. Its helpful to have things people can use and not have to buy.
Dear Anna, may you feel loved by your family and friends and we all look forward to meeting Baby Dawson very soon! You and Braydon will be great parents! I'm so glad I get to be a part of your family!
What a beautiful wedding indeed! Aside from my daughter Amanda's wedding, this was the largest event I handled thus far. There were several things that happened along the way with this event that were out of my control, yet God handled all the details as if He loved His daughter Olivia well!
When I ordered the flowers from PetalJet, the only delivery option was Dec. 28 due to it being Christmas week. This was closer to the wedding date than what I typically like to do, but I had no other options. The flowers here would be for 15 centerpieces, the head table centerpiece, 3 Bouquets and a few vases around the reception.
HOWEVER, they arrived on the 27th! Praise God! Typically I want 3 full days for the flowers.
This gave me the time needed to process the flowers and give them time to wet their little whistles and begin to bloom.
2 types of Roses, Mums, Lisianthus, Astrantia, Anemone, Hypericum, and Podacarpus were all resting in my basement from their long journey from Ecuador.
Union Church, my home church is where Livie and Will decided to get married. Will, who loves architecture was in awe of the 1800's church. What excites me when working with families is knowing I have something to offer to help alleviate anything stressful for all involved. Hard work is fulfilling. Knowing I can do something to bring a smile to someone else is priceless. A few days before the wedding, I spent some time with another church family clearing out the stage of all the typical music equipment and we transformed the stage to what would be the backdrop to beautiful vows before God and all the witnesses. The flower towers you see there began with an image Livie sent me of what she would like. They are 6 feet tall and hold $1500 worth of faux flowers(in case you're wondering what something like that would cost.) (p.s. that's not what I paid for them...I love sales!) The cross was built by her dad several years back for a local, yearly fundraising effort called the Good Friday Walk. A 20 mile walk on Good Friday and the youth group in their church carried this cross the 20 miles that day. Powerful! Today, it served another purpose.
The 2 days prior to the wedding my living room was overtaken by the most amazing aroma from so many roses and eucalytpus, it was heavenly. I sent this photo to my daughter which I think fully explained why I had to tell her and my son in law that we could not watch their 6 month old Doberman prior to the wedding.....there was just no room! I mean if he came in the front door quietly and walked over to his bed and laid down, maybe, but he comes barreling in excited to see us and has no traction on our floor, so all I could see was all this getting knocked over and my day ending in tears. Thank God for friends like Paul and Sierra to take our big grand baby!
There were 8 girls carrying these single white roses.
and 2 Matrons of Honor carrying these. the brides was like this but a little bigger.
I waited till Friday night to do Livie's bouquet. I wanted hers done last to be the freshest it could be. I had ordered 4 bouquet holders knowing I only needed 3, however God knew I would need that 4th one. 9:00 Friday night, I had realized these holders were not of high quality and the bouquet was just too heavy for it....a little panic came over me but I do not give up. Luke, to my rescue. I said Luke, here's my problem, how do I secure the weight? He took the 4th holder, reinforced it for me and I quickly rebuilt the bouquet onto the new holder. Thank you Lord for that last holder I wouldn't have ever known I needed. Ahh, the struggles of a novice. With each event I learn new things to which I am grateful for.
The head table was adorned with eucalyptus and little vases on the tables and the above centerpiece. Behind the head table was a large space where I put various glass bud vases with just a couple flowers and this is where the bridal party put their roses and bouquets.
Livie and Will are both musical, so their seating chart they made was just perfect. Old records with names and tables numbers! And another unique idea, each person could highlight their favorite scripture and sign their Bible. I love all the unique touches of their wedding.
Another really cool God thing that happened was with the white roses from Costco. I had gone a little over budget with the original total I anticipated spending on all the flowers, and on the day of delivery for the white roses, I received an email from Costco that they were refunding me the money for the roses because they were going to be delivered a day late and the flowers may be compromised. I was on the ready in case I needed to go buy more flowers, but they came in just fine and the girls single roses were beautiful and the remaining roses were used to line the aisle at the church with their petals.
Another cool thing, the wedding was attended by everyone, no one missed it due to illness. And all went well. There were Illnesses weeks before the wedding and illness came after the wedding, which was fine. Many of us ended up being sick afterwards. I can't even imagine what would have needed to take place if any of us had gotten sick and couldn't do the tasks we had to do for the wedding.
If you've read any of my other events, you might have learned that I am notorious for not getting good photos of things I do. So it's good for me to share with you that for this event, I had my favorite sister in law and my husband as my helpers for the reception(wish I had gotten a photo of the 3 of us.) You see, the wedding was at noon and the reception place only allowed us to decorate from noon to 2 as the reception would begin at 2. Luke and I, unfortunately missed the wedding. To ensure we would be done on time, adorning 15 tables, a head table and other various decorations, Kate and Luke joined me in "Do Good" and in an hour and 45 minutes we were done and by 2, Luke and I were in our wedding clothes and bidding Kate farewell as she drove off with a smile on her face. There is no greater feeling to me than serving my fellow man.
Dear Will and Olivia, thank you for allowing me to be a part of your special day. I will forever have beautiful memories of that day! And to Kristi and Eric, thank you for trusting me with all the flowers, for the freedom to choose and create with a few photos as inspiration and to share in the love that day. I am humbled and honored. Praise God!
I have been blessed with knowing Lisa and her family for 20 plus years now. Lisa and I joined the church at the same time and we've become great friends over the years so it was a no brainer when she asked if I would help with food at Trey's school dance.
Parents provided the desserts and Lisa wanted the dance this year to be a little extra special than just pizza as in years past. She wanted easy finger foods that could be contained individually so it would be an easy grab and go type of table. Chips and Salsa, fruit cups, Goldfish cups and boxed sandwiches in addition to pizza! From what I hear the kids really were overjoyed with the food this year, so that warms the heart. I love knowing that I can help in small ways and behind the scenes for people to have big impacts. Lisa got this done!
Dear Lisa and Trey, you are both special to me and I hope all the people in attendance felt loved by your generous spirit to make it extra special this year!
A friend asked if I could help with her window boxes on her deck. She did most of the work cutting branches from various places. I did a few boxes to show her how easy it is and she did one too. Once you have the clippings, this took 5 minutes to do. She loved it and so do the birds, they love the berries.
From Ecuador to my door. I learned about Petal Jet from Anna, an online ordering company that delivers straight to your door on the day you ask for. I've used Global Rose in the past but Petal Jet had the taupe roses we were looking for. The greens are from Trader Joes! The flowers were delivered Tuesday and I wish I took a photo of what they look like when they arrive, but I forgot....typical. They come all bundled up, secured and thirsty for water. Once in my buckets though with their flower food, they perk right up and spend the next 2 days opening their blooms. I had 6 arrangements to make. 5 Centerpieces and an entry way table to adorn! Erin was looking for a golden vintage romantic theme. You'll notice on the entry table an antique framed mirror. I had the antique frame at home and a broken piece of mirror, my friend Carl does stained glass so I asked him if he would cut the broken mirror to fit the frame. He graciously did that for me. Now I have a mirror for any future events as well! I also found several of the vases the centerpieces are in at thrift shops, or marketplace. One was a gawdy yellow, I spray painted it gold and you couldn't even tell. One was a cake stand I already had and one was a wooden old nasty thing that I cleaned up and spray painted gold. The gold chargers on the table I picked up for a very good price from marketplace from another bride.
Driving to the venue which was in Simsbury was quite the ride. I prayed the whole way Lord, please don't let these tip over. I had secured them as best I could but you never know what you will encounter on the roadways. A turn too quick or a stop too fast and all I could see was flowers whacking me in the back of my head. However, God answered my prayers and all went well....except for the irritated drivers behind me who had no idea why I would possibly be doing the speed limit. Keep that in mind the next time you're irritated by the driver in front of you...they may have a car load of flowers to get to their destination.
It was an honor, once again to be a small part to a big day. I pray their wedding day to be one of love and honor. A time to cherish each other and see all their loved ones who come out to support their union before God. In the book of Mark chapter 10, Jesus explains to people the concept of marriage that God designed. A man shall leave his father and mother and the two shall become one. May Caleb and Emma experience the greatness God designed through marriage from this day forward!
The first time I met Olivia(August 2016), she would tell you I scared the daylights out of her. Somewhat embarrassing for me but I think most women can relate to this story, so I can share. If you can't relate then scroll along. Livie is the younger sister to Collin, my son-in-law. I was the dorm mom at a Christian Camp that summer. Christian Youth In Action to be exact. Collin and Amanda had met 6 months earlier on another trip Luke and I were chaperones on for CEF (Child Evangelism Fellowship). That's where the twinkle in Collin's eye for Amanda began. And also where Collin would break a vertebrae in his back whilst skiing.....well.....racing down the mountain under our supervision.😬 Fast forward to that summer then, when I was a dorm mom and happened upon a swing set that looked taller than a skyscraper and found Collin at the tippity-top of that apparatus, my fight instinct kicked in and I yelled across the field..."COLLIN, GET DOWN NOW!" (you know how when a fisherman comes back with stories of how big the fish that got away was?...I may have had some of that phenomenon happening with the size of the swing set.....but it was tall.) Perhaps Livie never heard anyone yell at her brother that way, not sure, but nevertheless I scared her.
I hope and think I've redeemed myself and she no longer is scared of me. She and Amanda became best of friends over the next several years and so it was no surprise that when Olivia became engaged to Will, she would have Amanda as one of her Maids of Honors, along with Anna, her other sister-in-law. This was a whirlwind weekend where Anna and Amanda would come back to CT from their home in PA to throw Livie a bridal shower. Arriving late Thursday night meant shopping and prepping as much as we could Friday for a Saturday 2 pm shower. Since Amanda has moved to PA, I will accept any amount of time to spend with her when back in CT. We washed and chopped veggies, prepped soup, arranged the room, set the tables and here is something cool. Part of my ministry: Do Good, is to help offset costs for those throwing these events, because let's be real everything is so expensive these days. So I collect items from other parties that perhaps can be reused for a future party. I have had several people donate their goods to me once they are done with them. The week prior to this shower I had made all the centerpieces for Faith's wedding. At the end of the night, Faith's mom offered for me to take all the flowers home with me. So I did, and I did what I could to save those beautiful flowers for the week in hopes Amanda and Anna could use them for the bridal shower. The alstroemeria and some of the eucalyptus were still beautiful so a penny was saved....well a lot of pennies. Thank you Mom!
On Saturday, 50 or so women were blessed and a blessing. They were a blessing to Olivia as they showered her with gifts for the start of her and Will's life together and they were blessed with a beautiful spread made by some of the girls in the wedding party with my help.
Amanda and Anna did a fabulous job throwing a beautiful party. I was so thrilled to help and it made it even more special to work side by side with my daughter.
To Olivia: May you always feel the love of God by those He puts around you. May you continue to be a light to this dark world.
When you get to participate in a wedding you are part of a very intimate time in two people's lives. So it is special and an honor. This one had a particular special meaning for me. I met Faith a few years back when she danced with my daughter in Daughters of Zion. A few years later, Luke and I would attend the same church as Faith's parents. Lora and Steve. We walked into their church at the time and they were warm and welcoming to us newcomers. We didn't attend very long and that's a whole different story, but it was nice to see them each week while we did. Around that time Steve was diagnosed with ALS. Despite the prayers of many, Steve succumbed to this extremely debilitating disease only a few months before Faith's wedding. Truly heartbreaking. What I witnessed though was a beautiful family whose faith would carry them through this time and they continued to be a blessing to so many. I had helped Lora with the decorations at Faith's shower a few months prior to the wedding (which i neglected to take photos of) and was blown away at how God held them up as Steve had just gone to be with the Lord a couple weeks prior to the shower. I remember wanting the centerpieces to be just perfect so it would give Lora one small thing to smile at. I was nervous the whole drive to the venue, wanting to make sure they stayed upright. I will never forget the look on Lora's face as she turned the corner and saw the flowers for the first time. Her face lit up, her eyes welled up and was so happy that she made me tear up. Her first words were "Faith is going to love these," and that's the moment I saw Lora's heart for her daughter. She wanted it to be just right for Faith. A mother's love for her daughter is fierce and can mend a part of one's being like nothing else. I would continue to see this each time we would talk and she would say how thankful she was that I made her daughter happy. Praise God, this is why I do this!
To Faith: May your marriage be blessed by God and may His light shine through you both to everyone you meet!
To Lora: Thank you for showing me your heart and for trusting me with your daughters wedding!
I was blessed to be able to do the dessert table at the Jack n Jill of Mike and Amy. They had a baseball theme. That was so much fun to think about the different things to make for that. This spread was for 75 people.
Tracie is Mike's mom who asked me if I would do the Dessert table. I arrived to set up and things were all abuzz, decorations, food tables, and general set up. It took me about an hour and a half to complete the dessert table. I thought it came out so sweet! Twinkie Corn Dogs, Chocolate pretzel baseball hats, Baseball hat bowls filled with pudding and graham cracker "dirt", baseball cupcakes and cotton candy ice cream cones! How fun! I thank Tracie for being a wonderful person to work with. We stayed for the party and ended up winning a raffle basket! We had quite a bit leftover so the remaining goodies were brought to the church for Sunday morning coffee hour! Better on other peoples hips than ours.
I'd also love to tell you Mike and Amy have huge hearts as they have started a Vernon chapter for Special Olympics. Their dedication to serving others with needs greater than their own is inspirational and encouraging in this world!
To Mike and Amy: May your wedding be a beautiful day blessed by God and for a lifetime of happiness and joy. Also, may the Vernon Special Olympics grow to be a blessing to the community and all your hard work be redeemed back to you in a joy that's beyond your expectations!
To Tracie: Thank you for reaching out to me about this opportunity and for being a trusting friend for many many years!
The things I think of in my head don't always come out the way I see them in my head.
I learned I don't do cupcakes, they are not as easy to frost as they look.
Perhaps if I do more, It'll get easier but my hands don't love squeezing that pastry bag.
I found BentyCakes though, a silicone mold to make cake pucks. Those are easy.
Erin heard through her sister that I was doing these types of events so she reached out to me. That was very special to know word of mouth was working. It was an absolute treasure working with Erin. She was trusting and wide open to help. She is one of those women I have mentioned before that self proclaims this type of stuff is a stressor and where I could come in and ease her mind. It was a blessing to know I was actually helping by using one of my gifts. We had some new stuff for this event. Pavlova with jam, shrimp cocktail, ham and cheese wraps, beets and goat cheese stacks with a balsamic glaze, cupcakes with edible flowers, and so much more! 90 minutes to set up and off I was. Erin dropped off all my supplies afterward. It sounded like it was all a hit. Praise God.
To Emma: May your wedding day be blessed by God and may He show His love to you both all the days of your lives!
To Erin: Thank you for trusting me with your families events. May you be blessed knowing how much God loves you!
